He was recently home on a few days' furlough and had returned less than two weeks ago. He responded to a toast on "Our Navy" at the banquet given by the Commercial club Nov. 16 and was in fine spirits. Sunday afternoon while attempting to board a moving train on the Illinois Central road at Chicago he fell beneath the wheels and met his death. The remains arrived here in Cedar Falls this morning and were taken to the home of his parents. He was nearly 24 years of age.

There was a large attendance at the military funeral of Harold Minkle yesterday afternoon in Zion Evangelical church and the services were very impressive. Dr. E. J. Lang of Waterloo, preached the sermon and Dr. J. W. Holland offered the prayer. The pallbearers were six comrades who were with young Minkle as members of Co. The veterans of James Brownell post attended in a body as did also the Yeomen lodge. There were beautiful floral tributes and a sympathetic crowd of neighbors and friends.
