WATERLOO - Raymond L. DeBar, 83, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Buchanan County, son of Harley and Velma Rhodes DeBar. She married Elinor Dally on June 21, 1952, at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Waterloo.

Mr. DeBar graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1944 and worked for John Deere for 35 years, retiring as personnel manager at the Engine Works in 1986. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church; was a former chairman of the Board of Deacons; was a Sunday School superintendent; and was former chairman of the Friendship Village Retirement Board.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Joyce (Mark) Peterson of Waterloo, Lynda (Daniel) Askren of Arcadia, Ind., and Dona (David) Hart of Daleville, Va.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernard (Sally) of New Brighton, Minn.; and a sister, Norma (Russell) Young of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Geneva Weibbeck.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Friendship Village Foundation Board.
