Mary E. Bixby, 91, of Hudson, Iowa, died at the Greenleaf Health Care in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Tuesday, November 10, 2009.

She was born August 2, 1918 in Hudson, IA, the daughter of Charles and Mary Moody Bixby.

Ms. Bixby graduated from Hudson High School. She was the postal clerk at the Hudson Post Office for 34 years, retiring in 1973.

She was a 50-year member of the Rebecca Lodge and had been Nobel Grand twice and she also belonged to the Past Nobel Grand. Ms. Bixby used to help with the Hudson Community Center Meals.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and board games, crossword puzzles, crafts, and crocheting lap robes for the Marshalltown Veterans Clinic and Hospice. She especially loved to crochet afghans for her nieces and nephews to great-great nieces and nephews. She loved to spend time and go out to dinner with friends and family. She was a very special woman to all of us, she was not just an aunt but embraced us with a motherly love.

Ms. Bixby is survived by her brother John Bixby and his wife Mary Pat of Miami, Florida, sister-in-law Elsie Bixby of Sumner, several nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Blanche and Marie Bixby; and brothers Craig, Albert, and Edward Bixby.
