CEDAR FALLS - Mary G. Carroll, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 18, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

She was born May 21, 1928, in Waterloo, daughter of John W. and Myrtle R. Nash Gwynne. She married James L. Carroll on June 10, 1953, in Waterloo.

Mrs. Carroll graduated from Waterloo West High School, then furthered her education at the University of Iowa, receiving her bachelor's degree in English in 1951 and master's degree in 1963. She taught at McKinstry Elementary from 1951 to 1964.

Survived by: her husband; a son, James of New Hampshire; a daughter, Kathy Carroll of Cedar Falls; and a grandchild.

Preceded in death by: a son, John B.; and a brother, Jack Gwynne.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
