WATERLOO - Edward "Ed" Dale Lutz, 79, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center from cancer and COPD. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at First Lutheran Church by Rev. Craig Brown. Friends may visit at the church after 10 a.m. Thursday. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; children Tim (Sharlene), Tony (Barb), Tammy, Annette, and Anita (Wayne); grandchildren TJ (Erica), Emily, Heidi, Erik, Kiersten, Tori, and Bryce; great grandchildren Andrew and Matthew; brothers Gene (Carolyn) and Bill (Phyllis); In-laws Jean (Maurice), Martin (Fran), Darrel (Nancy), Nona, Sue, and Gerald; and 39 nieces and nephews.

His parents, brothers Tommy, Bob, and Jim, and sisters Georgia Lee, Naomi, Shirley, and Mable precede Ed in death.

Ed was born August 2, 1930 in Kellerton, IA, the son of Boyd and Veva Valetta Coverdale Lutz. He graduated from Las Animas High school in 1949. He married Dorothy Mae Schlichting on November 12, 1954 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artesian, IA. Ed served his country in Korea in the US Army Signal Corps. He was baptized at Las Animas, CO, confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran in Artesian, IA, and was currently a member at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a volunteer Auxiliary police officer in Waterloo during the turbulent 60's, and past member and president of the school board at Immanuel Lutheran School. Ed enjoyed cruising around Robinson Crusoe & Exchange Parks in Waterloo on his Cushman 4 wheeler as Park Ranger. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking and making lawn art for the family, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church, Hospice of Mercy, or the charity of your choice.
