Robert G. "Bob" Shindley - December 31, 2009
Robert G. “Bob” Shindley, 81, of Waterloo, was born December 17, 1928 in Elmwood, IL, the son of Niles and May Misgimmons Shindley. He attended school in Waterloo and joined the US Army in 1948 during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1951 having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On June 25, 1955,
Bob married Beverly Beard in Waterloo. Beverly died on March 18, 1994.
Robert worked for the Illinois Central railroad and then GE Railcar where he retired in 1991. Bob was a member of Shriner’s Firehouse Gang, a licensed pilot and a member of Hammond Avenue Brethren Church and Cedar Valley Community Church. He had a love of aircraft.
Bob died on Thursday, December 31, 2009 while a patient at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers.
Bob is survived by two sons, David (Diane) Shindley and Scott Shindley, both of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Heather Shindley of Waterloo and two brothers, Harold Shindley of Waterloo and David Shindley of Chillicothe, IL.
