Charlotte J. Hoffman (1932-2009)
Waterloo-Charlotte Jean Hoffman, 77, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 17, at Allen Hospital.
She was born July 4, 1932, in Fairfield township, Fayette County, daughter of Russell and Minerva Lockard Pierce. She married Rollis McClain, and they later divorced. She married Louis B. Hoffman on Oct. 27, 1955, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died Sept. 23, 1996.
She operated Charlotte's Mini Donuts at the Cattle Congress and area fairs.
Survived by: four sons, Larry (Ann) Hoffman of Toledo, and Doug (Joy) Hoffman, Jerry (Linda) McClain and James McClain, all of Waterloo; three daughters, Patricia Johnson of Waterloo, Peggy (Mike) Cooley of Glendale, Az., and Janean (Marty) McElmeel of Phoenix; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy McLavey of Tripoli; and a brother, Jim Olsen of Oregon.
Preceded in death by: a son, Louis B. Hoffman Jr.; two brothers, Harold and Raymond Pierce; and two sisters, Wanda Buhr and June Olsen.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before service Wednesday at the church.
