DIES IN WATERLOO

Former Resident of Charles City Takes Own Life

CHARLES CITY, IOWA - A 30-year-old father of three children and a former resident of Charles City, was found shot to death Monday morning in the basement garage of his home in Waterloo. The dead man was Harold T. Thomas.

Deputy sheriffs attributed his death to suicide and said he killed himself with a 12-gauge shotgun placed at the back of his head. Authorities said Thomas had been despondent because of ill health.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Thursday at Kern's Garden chapel, in Waterloo.

Harold Dell Thomas, son of William Thomas and Blanche Bradley Thomas, was born Oct. 1, 1920, at Lamont. He attended public schools in Charles City. Thomas lived here with his parents for a year prior to moving to Waterloo 9 years ago.

He was married to Myrtle June Hanson in October 1940, in Waterloo. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed by Rath Packing company at Waterloo at the time of his death.

Survivors are his wife Myrtle, and children: Jerry Lee, 9, Larry Rae, 7, and Barbara, 10; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas, Olympia, Wash., brothers, William, Jr., Charles City; Robert, James and Carl John, all of Olympia, Wash.; sisters, Mrs. Raymond. Parker, and Mrs. Joseph Parker, both of Olympia, Wash., and grandmother, Mrs. Nel Thomas, Charles City.
