Leo F. Reiss (1927-2009)
Waterloo-Leo F. Reiss, 82, of Rosewood Estates, died Wednesday, Dec. 16 at home.
He was born July 16, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, son of Louis and Lorena Heiberger. He married Rosella Markovetz on Aug. 28, 1954, in Waterloo.
Mr. Reiss graduated from St. John's High School, Ryan, and Loras College, Dubuque. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a partner in Mail-Me-Mail Accounting and was later employed at Rath Packing Co. and John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until his retirement.
Survived by: his wife; four sons, Louis (Virginia), Joseph (Shari) and Steven, all of Waterloo, and Edward of Des Moines; six daughters, Mary Ohrt, Janet (Craig) Drewelow, Susanne (Tim) Schultz, and Phyllis (Kevin) Foley, all of Waterloo, Katherine (Greg) Armstrong of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Barbara (Gary) Konicek of Rochester, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leland of Ryan; a sister, Lois Byrne of Marion.
Preceded in death by: his parents; a grandson, Dana; a son-in-law Del Ohrt; a sister, Lorraine (Charles) Kennedy; a sister in infancy; a brother-in-law, Dan Byrne; a sister-in-law, Waunetta Reiss.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial at 2 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Ryan, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 692 of Ryan. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Columbus High School or the Knights of Columbus.
