Ex-Bailiff Sweitzer Is Dead

Charles G. Sweitzer, 77 of 320 Bertch Ave., who retired in May of 1959 after 10 years as district court bailiff, died at his home Tuesday at 8 a. m. of a heart attack.

Mr. Sweitzer was in the shoe business, clothing business and insurance, and worked for the Repass Auto Company for 33 years before becoming bailiff of the district court 10 years ago.

He was born Nov. 27, 1882, in Black Hawk county, the son of Jonas and Lydia Lichty Sweitzer. He came to Waterloo when he was 17 and has lived here since then.

Mr. Sweitzer married Louise Bradley July 10, 1906, in Waterloo. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waterloo Lodge 105 AF&AM and the Iowa State Traveling Men’s Association of Des Moines.

Survivors include his wife, one son, Preston, of Des Moines, one sister, Mrs. Clara Miller, of the Allen Memorial Convalescent Home, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Friends may call at the Parrott and Wood funeral home after 5 p. m. Wednesday.
