Mrs. Sweitzer Of Hudson Dies

Wife of Hardware Dealer; Funeral Sunday

Hudson, Ia. – Mrs. B. M. Sweitzer, 60, longtime resident of Hudson, died at 2 a. m. Friday at her home here after a lingering illness of asthma and complications.

As Martha Lees Aitken, daughter of William and Isabella Aitken, she was born Feb. 26, 1884, at Cedar Falls and grew to young womanhood there.

On Dec. 30, 1903, she was married to Bernice M. Sweitzer, hardware and implement dealer here, and they had resided here since.

Mrs. Sweitzer was a charter member of Dorfcas Rebekah lodge here and a member of the Federated church and of the Woman’s Missionary union of the church.

Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Marvina Parris, 420 Kingsley avenue, and Mrs. Emma Brown, 2017 West Third street, both of Waterloo; Mrs. Neva Beth Gregg, Postville; three grand children; three sisters, Mrs. Violetta Thompson, Mrs. A. I. Bunn and Mrs. R. E. Willharm, all of Waterloo; one brother, M. W. Aitken, Canton, O.

There will be a prayer service at 2 p. m. Sunday at the home, followed by rites at 2:30 at the Federated church, Rev. Clell Hickman of Reinbeck, former pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Harvey Moon, pastor of the local church.

The Rebekah committal service will be given at the grave in Hudson cemetery. The body was taken to the O’Keefe and Towne funeral home at Waterloo. -- Waterloo Daily Courier, Waterloo, Iowa (Friday 11 Aug 1944) w/photo.
