Hudson, IA.—Wesley G. Strayer, 69, former mayor of Hudson died at 2 p. m. Wednesday in Presbyterian hospital at Waterloo after a three year illness of kidney and bladder complications.
He was born at Hudson Dec. 12, 1880, the son of pioneer parents, Levi and Lavina Strayer. He grew to manhood here and attended the Babcock school of pharmacy at Des Moines.
He operated drug stores at Dike and Perry, Ia., before returning to Hudson about 1918, where he purchased the drug store from J. B. Meyers. He continued in the drug business until his health failed.
Mr. Strayer married Grace Saylor of Hudson in 1901, and she preceded him on Nov. 2, 1920.On Council for Years.
He was a member of the town council for many years, and formerly was town and school teasurer, and active in all civic affairs.
He was director of the Hudson State bank until his resignation two years ago. He was active in war bond drives.
Mr. Strayer became mayor in 1938 succeeding the late R H. Mueller.
He was a member of the Community church, IOOF and Rebekah lodges and of the Commercial club.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Emma Cain, Hudson, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Ruby Shimer, Long Beach, Cal.; Mrs. Hulda Spencer, Manua, O. and Mrs. Sadie Washburn, Des Moines; two brothers, Cyrus Strayer, Ocheyedan, and Frank Strayer, Roundup, Mont.
An adopted daughter, Mrs. Jack Delman, Austin, Tex., died Aug 20, 1949.Funeral Saturday.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Community church, Rev. Richard Emery, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hudson cemetery.
