Heart Disease Cause of Death
Pioneer Farmer on Way to Visit Daughter in Company With Wife is Stricken Suddenly and Death Follows Immediately
Death caused by hardening of the arteries suddenly overtook A. W. Miller, 1320 Grant avenue, while he was driving with his wife to the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. B. Saylor, in Orange township early yesterday. As they were passing the home of John N. Mullan[y], 1320 Hammond avenue, Mrs. Miller was startled to note that her husband’s head was hanging on his breast and when she spoke to him he did not answer. Calling for assistance of two men who were passing she had Mr. Miller carried into Mr. Mullany’s home, where he died a few moments later without regaining consciousness. Although Mr. Miller has been affected for some time with the ailment, his death came unexpectedly and as a shock to his wide circle of friends.
Abraham Miller was born September 17, 1846, in Somerset county, Pa. In 1864 he came to Iowa settling in Black Hawk county. At first he was employed on what is now the S. P. Hoover farm. In 1873 he married Eliza Peck in Carroll county, Ill. For thirty-five years they livedon a farm in Orange county. Six years ago they moved to Waterloo.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. Saylor, Mrs. S. P. Hoover, of Waterloo, and E. J. Miller of Marshalltown. Two brothers, Noah and Jonathn, of Rock Rapids, also survive him.
The remains were removed to Kistner’s mortuary to be prepared for burial. The funeral services will take place from the Church of the Brethren Seventh and South streets, Friday at 2:00 p.m. They will be conducted by Rev. A. P. Blough. A short prayer service at the home at 1:30 o’clock will precede the church services. Interment will be in Orange township cemetery. --Waterloo Times-Tribune, Waterloo, Iowa (Thursday 11 Feb 1915: 6)
