A. W. Miller Dies Suddenly
Seized with Heart Trouble While Driving
Resided in Orange Township 35 Years – Lived Here Six Years
While driving with his wife this morning between 8 and 9 o’clock, Abraham W. Miller, 1320 Grant avenue, was seized with an attack of heart trouble, said to be due to hardening of the arteries, and died almost before he could be carried from the sleigh to a house. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were driving to the home of their daughter, Mrs. D. H. Saylor, in Orange township, when the latter noticed that her husband’s head had dropped forward in an unusual position. She became alarmed at once and asked him what the trouble was. Upon receiving no reply, she stopped the horse and called to two men for assistance. They bore the unconscious man into the home of John N. Mullany, 1230 Hammond avenue, in front of whose house the discovery of Mr. Miller’s fatal attack was discovered. Death resulted almost instantly from the sudden closing of the arteries. It was known for some time that he was afflicted by this form of heart trouble, but the sudden end was entirely unexpected as he had felt much better during late months than for a number of years.

Native of Pennsylvania.
Abraham Miller was 69 years of age, being born in Somerset county, Pa., September 17, 1846. When 18 years of age he came to Black Hawk county. The first winter was spent in Orange township upon the farm that at present is known as the S. P. Hoover property. He was married to Eliza Peck in Carroll county, Ill., on January 12, 1873. For thirty-five years they resided upon the farm in Orange township, and moved to Waterloo six years ago.
Besides the widow, three children survive. They are: Mrs. D. B. Saylor and Mrs. S. P. Hoover of Waterloo and E. J. Miller of Marshalltlown. He is also survived by two brothers, Noah and Jonathan, of Rock Rapids, Iowa.
The body was taken to the Kistner mortuary to be prepared for burial. A short prayer service, in charge of Rev. A. P. Blough, will be conducted at the residence Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, while regular services will be from the Church of the Brethren, Seventh and South streets, at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in the Orange township cemetery. --Waterloo Evening Courier, Waterloo, Iowa (10 Feb 1915)
