Lloyd Arthur Eckhart, age 85, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 9:00 A.M. Saturday, June 13, 2009, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg with Rev. Carl Cloeter officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 3 to 7 P.M. Friday, June 12, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be contributed to the Williamsburg Fire Department or the Williamsburg Library. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a son John and wife Lynne of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Susan Schaefer and husband Duane of North English and Sharon Grimm and husband Don of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren, Karl Eckhart, erika Lamp, Laura Langenberg, Brad Schaefer, Shawn, Jeff, Michael and Christopher Grimm; four great-grandchildren, Julian and Tallula Lamp and Alyssa and Jordan Grimm; three brothers, Don of Vinton, George of Vinton and Chuck of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, June Eckhart of Van Horne. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene in 2002, a brother Bob, and three sisters, Irene Fish, May McNamee and Mable Bray.

Lloyd Arthur Eckhart was born November 5, 1923 in LaPorte City, Iowa, the son of Morris and Delia LaCrosse Eckhart. He received his education in the rural schools of Iowa. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. He married Arlene Vogt on July 4, 1945 at the Lutheran Church in Vinton. The couple moved from Van Horne to Williamsburg in 1946, left in 1950 and then returned once again in 1958. The couple operated the South Side Café for two years. They then purchased and operated Little Chicago Café for many years.
Lloyd was a member of the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, the Williamsburg American Legion and was a charter member of the Williamsburg VFW Post #8797. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.
