Wanda (Mrs. Jerry) Barnes, 79, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, September 25, 2018, at the Maquoketa Care Center.
Wanda Rae Dvorak was born August 10, 1939, Chelsea, Iowa, to Lester and Mildred (Graham) Dvorak. She graduated from Keystone High School and attended secretarial school in Cedar Rapids. Wanda married Jerry Barnes October 17, 1959, at the United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, Iowa. The couple moved to DeWitt in 1966 where they raised their family. Wanda worked as a Para educator in the DeWitt school system, retiring from the Welton school.
She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, United Methodist Women and National TTT Society. Wanda enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry; children, Vanesa Barnes and Brad (Lisa) Barnes of Maquoketa; grandchildren, Abigail Barnes, Perry Barnes and Austin Barnes; siblings, MaryAnna Szabo of Cedar Rapids, Arlys (Don) Moen, Cedar Rapids, LaVonne (Warren) McPherson of Athens, Georgia; Amber (Lincoln) Pitts of Columbia, Maryland, and Rita Weber of Athens, Georgia; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wanda in death were her parents.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Tom Boomershine officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
