James Heinrich Strassberg was born January 4, 1889 at Benton Co, Iowa to Christina Marie Hansen and Christian Strassberg, the oldest of their seven children.

Found in the 1895 census living on a farm at Benton, Iowa: James Strassberg age 6. Five years later, the family moved to Rock Co, Minnesota.

Found in the 1900 - 1910 censuses living on a farm at Battle Plain, Rock, Minnesota:
1900: Christian Strassburg 36, Christina Strassburg 31, James H Strassburg 11, Julius F Strassburg 9, Irvin C Strassburg 7, Albert A Strassburg 3, Nellie M Strassburg 10 mos.

1905: James age 16.

1910: Christ Strassburg 46, Christina Strassburg 41, James Strassburg 21, Julius Strassburg 19, Irvin Strassburg 17, Albert Strassburg 13, Nellie Strassburg 10, George Strassburg 8, Eldo Strassburg 5.

James married Edna Christina Lorenzen on May 10, 1910 at Trosky, Pipestone, Minnesota.

The couple had 6 children:
Aldewin James (b February 15, 1911 Battle Plaine, Rock, Minnesota; d December 27, 1987 Luverne, Rock, Minnesota);
Lucille Irene (b September 17, 1912 Hardwick, Rock, MN, d April 1, 2002 Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, South Dakota);
Gladys Nell (b September 12, 1915 Eckelson, Barnes, North Dakota, d February 17, 2009 Sioux Falls, South Dakota);
Willard Wilson (b February 8, 1919 Eckelson, N Dakota, d May 29, 1994 Kenneth, Rock, MN);
Viola Christina (b February 19, 1922 Eckelson, N Dakota, d February 23, 1986 New Ulm, Brown, MN) and
Janice Edna (b March 19, 1927 Eckelson, North Dakota.

Found in the 1930 census at Cuba, Barnes, North Dakota: James H Strasburg 41, Edna C Strasburg 38, Aldeum J Strasburg 19, Lucille Strasburg 17, Gladys N Strasburg 14, Willard W Strasburg 11, Viola C Strasburg 8, Janice E Strasburg 3.

Found in the 1940 census at Battle Plain, Rock, Minnesota: James Staassbonney 50, Edna Staassbonney 47, Willard Staassbonney 21, Viola Staassbonney 18, Janice Staassbonney 13, Gladys Kindt 24, Donald Kindt 2, Dorothy Kindt 11 mos,Lloyd Lange 26.

James H Strassberg died January 6, 1951 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He is buried at the Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne, Rock, Minnesota.
There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #57446800.

Obituary:
James Henry Strassberg born in Benton County, Iowa on January 4, 1889. He was baptized in the name of the Triune God at Benton County, Iowa. He came to Rock County in 1900. At the age of 16, on April 16, 1905 he was confirmed at Hardwick by the Rev. Amend of Jasper.

On May 10, 1910 at the age of 21, he was married to Edna Christina Lorenzen in Pipestone County. This union was blessed with 2 sons and 4 daughters. A little later in 1910, he and his wife set out for Barnes County, North Dakota, where they made their home for 19 years. Coming back to Rock County, they made their church home at Edgerton, MN. In 1947, they were transferred back to our church here at Hardwick where they made their home in Kenneth, MN. For the past 3 years the deceased was troubled with bodily pains which necessitated several trips and operations at Rochester, MN. He was taken to McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD about 2 weeks ago and died of cancer on January 6, 1951 at 5:20 pm.

He attained the age of 62 years and 2 days. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Edna Christina of Kenneth; his mother, Mrs. Christina Strassburg of Luverne; 2 sons- Aldewin of Magnolia and Willard of Kenneth; 4 daughters Lucille, Mrs. Lorenz Claussen of Magnolia; Gladys, Mrs. Don Scott of Valley Springs; Viola, Mrs. Rudolf Lafrenz of Sioux Falls, Janice, Mrs. Robert Hanson of Garretson; 5 brothers- Julius of Buffalo, MN; Irvin of Canby; Albert of Canby; George of Luverne; Eldo of Park Rapids; 1 sister Nell, Mrs. Arthur Emmons of Garretson 15 grand-children and a host of other relatives and friends.
