Myrtilla M. Bawden, 93, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at her residence from a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial fund has been established.

Myrtilla was born March 6, 1916, near Ryan to Henry C. and Margaret D. (Drexler) LeClere. On Dec. 10, 1947, she married Raymond Bawden at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Raymond preceded her in death in 1993. Myrtilla was employed as a cook at the former Cafe 218 and also at the Vinton Lutheran Home for 15 years. After her retirement she continued to enjoy cooking, baking and crocheting.

She is survived by her son, Francis (Susan) Bawden of Mount Auburn; her stepdaughter, Karen Rae (Edward) Elsberry of Ogden; 10 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers and six sisters.
