Nadine Ruth Hlavacek, 90, Belle Plaine, died Friday Feb. 5, 2010, at Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab of a short illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Feb. 9, at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, with Pastor Pete Hagglund officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ryan Hlavacek, Kyle Hlavacek, Aaron Hlavacek, Nicklas Hlavacek, Corey Hlavacek, and Daren Hlavacek. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Smorawske, Tyler Hlavacek and Kaulin Hlavacek. Organist was Jane Hrabak, vocalist was Gary Drahn music was "In the Garden", "How great thou Art" and "Amazing Grace."
She was born March 26, 1919, in Belle Plaine to Carl and Mary (Kratoska) Benner. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School and the Iowa Teachers Collage. Jan. 29, 1942, she married Frank Hlavacek in Trenton, N.J. She was a bookkeeper for her and her husband's business.
She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Belle Plaine. She enjoyed working with her husband in their businesses, being a Welcome Wagon representative, the Lincoln Cafe coffee group, playing bingo and helping out every morning at the Community Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, April 16, 2002; brother, Orlo Benner; sister, Viola Ealy.
She is survived by her children, Tim (Dona), Conrad, Ted (Janet), Overland Park, Kan., and Tod (Peggy), Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
