Howard was born April 15, 1930, to William and Helen (Rexroat) Klopping in Newton. He was baptized on Aug. 11, 1935, at the Free Methodist Church in Newton. Howard grew up in rural Kellogg, Jasper County, and attended country school. Howard's family moved to a farm near Vinton in 1946. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1949. Howard was united in marriage to Myra Malinda Noe on Sept. 9, 1962, at the Garrison Methodist Church.

Howard later became a member of the Garrison Methodist Church in 1963. He was very active at church serving on the church board, teaching youth and adult Sunday school and serving as Sunday school superintendent. His Christian faith was the backbone of who he was and sustained him throughout his life. He also was a 4-H leader for 10 years and served on the Garrison Cemetery board.

He was a real estate broker, was employed at the Vinton Van Company and at John Deere. Howard's passion was farming. He and Myra farmed and raised cattle near Garrison for 52 years. His favorite time of year was harvest, where he spent countless hours on the combine. Howard will always be remembered for his hard work, his compassion for others, his unfailing willingness to help his neighbors and his love for his family. He took great joy and pride in his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Myra; children, Lee (Linda) Klopping, James (Rosie) Klopping and Susan (Fritz) Noren; brothers, Loren (Teresa) Klopping, Dean Klopping and Richard Klopping; sisters, Elizabeth Hutton, Rhodabelle Rothfuss, Ruth (Bobbie) Lewis and Carmen Klopping; eight grandchildren, Levi, Logan, Lindsay, Anna, Jake, Emily, Zachary and Nicholas; one great-grandchild, Gracie.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eva Mae DeSelm and Wanda Saak; seven brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and his mother and father-in-law, Cecil and Anna Noe.
