McHENRY - Walter Paul Smith, 75, of McHenry, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, in Fountain County, Ind.

He was born March 1, 1929, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, to Florence and Paul Smith. He married Roberta L. Smith.

He was a railroad engineer for Chicago and North Western Railroad for more than 45 years.

He was a past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 96.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen (Mark) Sebby; his mother, Florence Chambers; four grandchildren, Sara, Holly, Shawn, and Beth; a great-grandson, Simon; and five nieces and nephews, Mary Anne Combs, Laura Moon, Nancy Kistler, Margaret Jones and Clarke Sager.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Lawrence Smith; and his wife.

The visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Windridge Funeral Home, 104 High Road, Cary. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plaines, NY 10605.
