attended the funeral obsequies of
his mother, Tuesday coming with
his wife overland by team.

MRS. MARGARET BURNS

Passed to the Great Beyond at Home
of Daughter, Mrs. Murphy near
Exira Last Monday.

Margaret Jane Poyntz, was born
near Williamsburg, Grant Co., Kentucky,
Oct. 4, 1821 and died July 5,
1909 near Exira, Iowa, at the age of
88 yrs. 9 mo. 1 da.

She was married in 1840 to David
Burns and in 1840 in company with
her husband and two children left
Kentucky and located in Clark Co.,
Missouri where they lived until 1870.
At that time they came to Audubon
Co, Iowa and have resided in the
neighborhood every since.

To this union were born twelve
children, seven boys and five girls.
One boy and one girl died in infancy
and two children, Eliza and Sarah E.
in the maturer years of life. Eight
children survive the aged mother:
William of New Kirk, Oklahoma;
Thomas, Kearney, Neb., Dee, Bloomington,
Ind.; John P. Cumberland,
Iowa; Andrew, Corning, la., James
S., Exira, Iowa; Minda Wilson,
Junction City, Kan., Catherine
Murphy, Exira, Iowa.

Grandma Burns as she was familiarly
known to a large circle of friends
was for many years a member of the
Christian Church and passed away
resting upon the hope of the life
beyond. She was a kind mother and
a good neighbor and she will be
missed by all her loved ones in the
years to come.

Asleep in Jesus! peaceful rest,
Whose waking is supremely blest;
No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour
That manifests the Savior's power.
