Mrs. Tom Hill and baby spent
last Friday at the home of her broth-
er, George Schlater and wife. Mrs.
Schlater is very sick with lung
fever.

MRS GEORGE SCHLATER

Florence L. Thomas was born
Aug. 30, 1890 in Exira township
and died at her home on July, 1,
1917 at the age of 26 years and
ten months.

When she was two and one-half
years old she was bereaved of a
mother's love and care by death,
and a year later went to the
home of her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Davis, with whom
she lived until her marriage to
George Schlater, on March 13th,
1912. To this union, four children
were born, the eldest, a daughter;
dying in infancy. Grover, Marvin and
Donald remain to miss in the
coming years what this mother
might have been to their boyish
lives.

With the sadly bereaved husband,
the father and brother we deeply
sympathize.

Fourteen years ago,Mrs. Schlater
then only a little girl was baptized
and received into the Christian
church and lived the years
of her young womanhood in the
life of Faith, in Him who alone
can prepare human hearts for
life or death.

Brief funeral services were conducted
at the home on Tuesday
afternoon at, 1:00, and a very
largely attended funeral held at
the Christian church at 2:15 p. m.
Two hymns and an anthem were
beautifully sung by a quartette,
beautiful flowers were given by
friends and the sermon was preached
by Rev. Jessie G. Heath of the
Cong'l church

Internment was made in the
Exira cemetery.

Note: Parents of Florence L. Thomas were Maturon D. "Tune" Thomas and Lucinda "Lucy" Davis. Florence was married to George Walter Schlater. After Florence died, George remarried to Susanna Wilhelmina "Susie" Heckman, widow of Oliver K. Cannon.
