BERT HAYES KILLED
IN AUTO ACCIDENT

-------
When Returning to His
Home in the Country,
This Morning.

--------

A very serious accident occurred
about ten o'clock this morning a
few miles northeast of town when
Bert Hayes, who was returning to
his farm home from Exira, collided
with another car at a turn in the
road near the Riley schoolhouse.

It is almost impossible to obtain
an accurate account of the accident
as many reports are afloat
concerning it but it seems that Mr.
Hayes was on his way home and
was traveling at a good rate of
speed. A gentleman from Bayard,
accompanied by his wife, was on
his way to Brayton, and was driving
a Ford. They stated that they
saw the car just before it reached
them and brought their car to a
stop, but the Hayes car, in turning
did not quite clear their auto and
ran into it, catching the front wheel
of the Ford, turning the Hayes
car over and over. When found
the car had righted itself and Mr.
Hayes was sitting upright in the
front seat, lifeless, with a broken
neck and crushed skull. He leaves
a wife and two children.

A coroner's inquest is being held
over the body. Obituary next
week.
