FINE YOUNG WOMAN OF
EXIRA PASSES AWAY

--------
Miss Lela Esbeck Died Yes-
terday after Long Illness
with Diabetes

-------

It is our sad duty to narrate the
passing of one of our best beloved
young ladies from our midst.

Lela Esbeck, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Johon Esbeck, passed from
her home her into the Great Be-
yond yesterday afternoon.

Several months ago Lela was at-
tacked by diabetes, a disease which
her family and friends greatly
feared for it ha been the imme-
diate cause of the death of her only
brother a few years ago. The dis-
ease rapidly sapped her strength
and her death was not unexpected.

Death always brings sadness and
when the young are called is is ap-
palling. We can not understand
why Lela, bright, winsome, affectionate,
in the flower of her youth
with life and love before her, should
have had the laughter of her lips
and the sparkle of her eyes quenched
by disease and death. We can
only express our sympathy with
the heart-broken parents, sisters
and friends who mourn her loss.
She can not return to us but there
is comfort in the thought that she
is at rest.

Funeral services will be held Fri-
day afternoon at the home at one
o'clock, and at the Danish Luther-
an church at 1:30, Rev. Rasmussen
officiating. Interment will be
made in the Exira cemetery.

LOCAL and PERSONAL

Misses Katie and Agnes Esbeck
came from Omaha last week, called
home by the sickness and death of
their sister, Miss Lela. Katie will
probably remain home indefinitely,
having resigned her position in
Omaha and Miss Agnes will stay
here at the parental home over the
Christmas vacation. She is nursing
in the Fenger Memorial Hospital
in Omaha.

Note: Parents of Lela Marie Esbeck were John Nelsen Esbeck and Ingeborg Nissen. Insulin was first used on humans in January 1922, barely a year following Lela's death.
