GRANDMA KNESS
One of the Grandest Old Ladies in
Iowa. A Beautiful Christian
Life Gone to Its God.

Mrs. Hannah Moorehead-Kness
was born at Bethelem, Armstrong
county, Pennsylvania, December
14, 1827, and passed quietly away at
Audubon, Iowa, Saturday morning,
March 23d, at the age of 79 yrs. 3
mo. 9 da.

She was married to Martin Kness
December 24, 1850, who preceded
her a little less than three months
ago to the better land above. This
union was blessed with nine children,
two of whom are deceased.
Of the seven, Miss Anna Kness,
Mrs. Nannie Carter and Grant and
Miles live in and near Audubon;
Mrs. Alice Boehme and George
Kness near Exira and Enos Kness
at Coon Rapids.

They resided in Pennsylvania
until 1850 when they came to Montezuma,
Poweshiek county, Iowa,
and thence to Cass county in 1880
where they lived but one year and
then moved to Greeley township,
Audubon county. In November,
1900, they moved to Audubon to
spend the evening of their lives.
Their brief residence here is well
known.

Mrs. Kness became a Christian at
the age of eighteen years and lived
a devoted life to the last, bringing
up her children in the same faith.
She was a devoted wife, a loving
mother, an ideal neighbor and
highly esteemed by all who knew
her. She leaves besides her seven
children, twenty six grandchildren
and three great grandchildren and
a large circle of friends to mourn
her loss.

The funeral was held from the
Methodist church Sunday afternoon,
March 24th, Rev. Grant, assisted
by Rev. C. D. Wendel, conducting
the service. A double
quartette furnished the music and
a large congregation was in
attendance.

Note: Parents of Hannah K. Moorhead were Isaac Moorhead and Nancy Buzzard. Hannah was married to Martin Ross Kness.
