OBITUARY

Ted E. Simpson, the son of Lafe and Kathryn Connrardy Simpson, was born at his parents' home in Audubon, Iowa and died at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1924. Ted then attended Iowa State College in Ames graduating with a Bachelors Degree in agriculture in 1928. While attending Iowa State he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

In 1929 he was united in marriage to Violet Dalzell. They farmed southeast of Exira until 1942 when he enlisted in the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served as an officer in the 173rd Field Artillery which saw action in South Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to Exira and established the Minerman-Simpson Ford Implement business which he operated until 1953, then operated a feed store there until 1958. Ted served as the Audubon County Recorder until he became the Auditor for the State Welfare Office and the Audubon County Welfare Director which he served until he retired. Violet died August 14, 1980, Ted received his real estate license and broker's license. On February 9, 1985 he married Lorraine Swisher at his home in Exira.

He was an active member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira serving as treasurer for several years. He was active in the Exodus Masonic Lodge No. 342 in Exira for 66 years and a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was past president of the Farm Bureau and a 50 year member of the Exira American legion. He was a board member of the Audubon County Memorial Hospital, the Exira Care Center for many years, and of the Sunset View Apartments and was a member of the Exira Commercial Club.

Preceding him in death were his first wife Violet Simpson; his parents; and his brother, James W. Simpson.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine Simpson of Exira; his sons and their wives: John B. and Lin Simpson of Fort Dodge, IA; Robert and Judy Simpson of Brayton, IA; and William and JoAnn Simpson of St. Louis, MO; his step-daughter, Linda Richards; and his stepson, Lee Rasmussen both of Council Bluffs, IA; his 10 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; his sister, Ramona Knick of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family of Mr. Simpson appreciates the many expressions of sympathy and concern. Everyone is invited to meet with the family in the church fellowship room following the committal service.
