JOHN B. CONNRARDY SILENT IN DEATH

John Baptist Connrardy was born January 6, 1843 in Niederamber, Grand Duchy of Luxemborg Germany, and died at his adopted home at Exira Audubon County Ia. on Monday, November 2, 1914.

In 1856 he emigrated to this country, first locating in Cascade Dubuque County, Iowa, where he remained until the breaking out of the civil war. In 1862 he enlisted in the 16th Regular United States Army for three years.

In 1869 he came to Audubon county and was elected Sheriff of the County in 1873 and served for two terms.

On the 16th day of February 1874 he was married to Miss Alice Poage of near Exira, and to this union were born eight children three of whom died in infancy. The living children are: Mrs. Everett Hunt, Denver Colorado, Mrs. William Halloran, Paris, Ill., Mrs. Lafe Simpson, Brayton, Ia., Mrs. Chas. I. Graf, Villisca, Iowa, and Mrs. Jack Connrardy, Exira, Ia.

His wife and one sister, Mrs. A. J. Baylor of near Exira, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grand child survive him.

He served as Postmaster of this city during the Grover Cleveland administration.

He was a member of the Eastern Star and A. F. and A. M. of Exira, a Knight Templar of Audubon, the zag-a-zig shrine of Des Moines.

He was also a member of the G. A. R. Post and of the Congregational church.

The Masons took charge of the funeral.

He was of a family of 16 children only one of which (Mrs. A. J. Baylor) survive him.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church. Rev. Wissler of Grinnell Iowa his former pastor delivered the address.
