AUDUBON COUNTY'S RESPECTED PIONEER

Gone to Reap the Harvest of His Earthly Labors
and to Receive His Reward

David Dutler was born October 1,
1829 in Switzerland and died June
26, 1916, aged 86 years, 8 months,
and 25 days.

In February 1848, he was mar-
ried to Miss Kathryn Snider of
Switzerland. Fifteen children were
born to this union, eleven now liv-
ing and four having died when
young.

He, with his wife and eight child-
ren came to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in
May 1865 where he was employed
by the railroad company after which

the family moved to a farm six
miles west of Cedar Rapids.

In March 1878, his wife and child-
ren moved to a farm which he pur-
chased in Guthrie County. The fol-
lowing year, 1879; he joined the
family and they made that their
home until September 12., 1907,
when Mrs. Dutler died, Mr. Dutler
then moved to the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Jake Engle and
husband, living there until their
move to Exira in March 1908. He
then moved to the home of another
daughter, Mrs .Ana Schwarting,
where he departed this life.

He leaves to mourn his loss
eleven children--five boys and six
girls--forty-one grandchildren, and
thirty great grandchildren. The
children are: Dave, near Laporte
City, Iowa; Mrs. Lizzie Krumm, of
Adair; Mrs. Jake Engel, of
Exira, Sam Dutler, near Hamlin,
Iowa, Dora Hammann of near
Springfield, Minn.; Mrs. Anna
Schwarting, of near Exira; Chris
Dutler, near Adair; John Dutler
Daisy, North Dakota; Mrs. Kat-
ie Klenze, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs.
Maggie Rainkie, Whitte, South Da-
kota; Henry Dutler, Moundrose,
South Dakota.

The funeral services were held
at the German Lutheran church in
Audubon township and the remains
laid to rest in the German Luther-
an cemetery. Rev. Deleske, the
pastor, delivered the sermon.

We extend our heartiest thanks
to the neighbors and friends for
their kind deeds during the sick-
ness and death of our beloved fath-
er, David Dutler.
