OBITUARY OF MRS.
SENATOR ANDREWS

Jennie Maria Andrews, daughter
of the late William Caufield Nor-
ton, of Oakfield, and his wife, Ruth
Harriet Thayer, was born in Spring-
field township, Allen County, In-
diana, June 21, 1850. She soon re-
turned with her parents to Spring-
water, N. Y., from whence they had
moved to Indiana, and lived at
Springwater until the year 1856;
when the family moved to Oak-
field, where they were early set-
tlers and wher(e) Miss Norton spent
her childhood and grew to woman
hood.

She was educated in the public
____ of Oakfield under the
tuition of Miss Dishrow, Jane
Beers, Mary Crane, Mary Beck,
Darthula Rogers, Arabella Macom-
ber (Major Belle Reynolds) Robert
N. Day and Harmon G. Smith and
became a successful school teach-
er in Audubon, Shelby and Cass
Counties and was married during
her last term of school, taught at
Anita, Iowa on February 26, 1871
to Hon. H. F. Andrews, of Exira,
Iowa.

In the Norton line she was a
lineal descendant of Le Seignoir de
Norvile. who was constable of Wil-
liam the Conquerer 1066. Eighth
in descent from Thomas Norton who
came from Ockley, England to Bos-
ton, Mass., 1639, and was ances-
tor of the Norton family of Guil-
ford, Conn. Eighth in descent
from Thomas Caufield who came
from England and was a settler
in Milford, Conn., 1646. Eighth in
descent from Thomas Thayer who
came from Thornbury, England, and
settled in Braintree Ill (should me Mass.), 1640.

Tenth in descent from Ozias
Goodwin, who came to Boston, 16-
32, and settled at Hartford, Conn.

She was united with the Congrega-
tional church at Exira with her
daughter, Jessamine. She went to
Monrovia, California 1904 and in
9105 (1905) took a homestead near Sho-
shoni, Wyoming, where she contin-
ued to live with her children un-
til the time of her death.

She died at Lauder, Wyoming,
December 27, 1915. Buried at Oak-
field, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1915.

Her children are Charles F.,
Claude N.; Wallace P. and John
H., residing at Shoshoni; Phillip S.
of Lauder, Wyoming and Jessa-
mine J.

Note: Parents of Jennie Maria Norton were William Canfield Norton and Ruth Harriet Thayer. She was married to Henry Franklin "H. Frank" Andrews.
