OBITUARY

Mette Marie Johnson, nee Petersen,
was born the 23rd of August, 1849,
in Voer Sogn, Vensyssel Denmark. In
1872 she was married to Soren C.
Johnson, a shoemaker by trade, with
whom she immigrated to this country
in 1878 and they located on a farm
in this county, where they have spent
their long matrimonial life, except a
short time, when they moved to Neb-
raska.

They were blessed with six children
two of whom preceded the mother in
death. The other four are Mary, wife
of Carl Jensen; Jens Peter of Exira;
Carl Christian of Grand Island, Neb,;
and Annie, wife of Tom Jensen at
Cotesfield, Neb., at whose home the
deceased spent her last days and died
last Friday evening, the 4th of Jan-
uary. She was physically a strong
woman until a couple of years ago,
when she fell and injured her head
to such a degree that she was ment-
ally incapacitated. They located in
West Exira, but in order that she
might receive better care, Mrs. John-
son was taken to the home of her
daughter in Nebraska a few months
ago. Here she was given the grace
by our Lord God to leave this vale of
sorrow and distress in order to pass
into the great beyond. Her age was
74 years 4 months and 12 days.

Her religious life is of the obscure
kind. She was baptized as an infant
in the Lutheran church of Denmark
and over here attended St. John's
Danish Lutheran church west of this
place. May she rest in peace. Only
by faith in Christ Jesus will our souls
find rest in eternity. We wish to
know that not only she, but her be-
reaved husband and children may in-
herit eternal life in Christ. God grant
us all this most blessed assurance in
this life, and we shall, like old Semion
depart in peace, but only thus.

Our sympathy is with the aged and
mourning husband, with whom she
passed some fifty years of wedlock.
May God grant you to experience the
best of all comforts--His everlasting
love in Christ.

Funeral services were conducted at
the Exira Danish Lutheran church at
one o'clock Tuesday afternoon Rev. P.
C. Jensen officiating. Interment was
in St. John's cemetery.
