Former Exiran
Dies In Montana
Sam Rummelhart Passes At
Hospital Following Short
Illness

Sam Rummelhart, 73, former
resident of the Exira vicinity,
died recently at a hospital in
Baker, Montana, after a week's
illness.

The following obituary was
taken from the Baker, Montana
newspaper:

Sam Rummelhart was born De-
cember 22, 1867, near Rockford,
Illinois, the oldest of six children.
In early childhood his parents
moved to western Iowa for a few
years, then returning to Illinois.
Later they moved to Dawes
county, Nebraska.

At the age of 23 Sam Rummel-
hart returned to Iowa and was
married to Adelphia May Huff, on
October 17, 1890. They reached
their golden wedding anniversary
last year but because their family
was so widely scattered the occa-
sion was unobserved.

Mr. and Mrs. Rummelhart mov-
ed to South Dakota in 1903, then
in 1915 came to Carter county
where they lived until 1923 when
they moved to Fallen (Fallon) county near
Webster. Here their family grew
to maturity and when the parents
retired from their long time
farming activities in 1936 they
came to Baker and built their
home on the south side.

Wherever their home was they
were part of the community and
had the friendship of all who
knew them. Mr. Rummelhart
was well liked by his friends and
in his own household he was a
kind husband and father. He
grew up in the Methodist faith
and was laid to rest under that
ritual.

He leaves two sons and four
daughters to mourn his passing
with their mother. There are
also 18 grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

The children are Mrs. Henry
Nyhouse of Huron, South Dakota,
Mrs. Robert Maywold of Dixon,
Montana; Mrs. Lester Wolentz of
Baker; Mrs. George Fowler of
Miles City; Albert Rummelhart,
Mataline, Washington, and Geo.
Rummelhart of St. Paul, Minne-
sota. Relatives who came yesterday
in response to the word of Mr. Rum-
melhart's illness were: Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Rummelhart and
sons, Max and Gene; Mrs. Robert
Maywold and daughter, Helen,
Mrs. Nyhouse and daughter, Ada,
Mrs. George Fowler and son,
George Rummelhart, John Rum-
melhart of Sulphur Springs, Mon-
tana, a brother, Mr. and Mrs.
Wilson Huff of Exira, Iowa, who
are a brother-in-law and wife, a
nephew, Claire Huff, wife and
two sons of Exira.

A grandson, Virgil Kiser, who
has spent three years in Alaska
came home Monday.

Note: Parents of Samuel Sherman Rumelhart were John R. Rumelhart and Christina Rogers. He was married to Adelphia May Huff. Mrs. Wilson Huff listed in the obit is actually Samuel's sister, Nellie Nettie Rumelhart.
