Well Known Audubon Man
Died After Two Days
Of Sickness

John Eagen, a resident of Au-
dubon county for more than half
a century, died at his home in
Audubon on Monday afternoon. He
was taken ill while on a trip to
Omaha with his wife Sunday, and
his death was quite unexpected.

He was born May 1, 1857, in
New Jersey, a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Eagen. He moved with
his parents to a farm near Iowa
City in Johnson county when one
year of age. He came to Audubon
county in 1883 and had lived here
since, excepting for two years
spent in Omaha. He had lived in
Audubon since 1919. Mr. Eagen
was united in marriage in Atlantic
on February 26, 1884, to Eliza-
beth Sipult.

Surviving are his widow: five
children, Mrs. Charles Jayne and
Mrs. Carl Sunberg of Audubon,
Thomas Eagen of Exira, Orah of
Greeley township and Harry of
Indianola; eighteen grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren;
three brothers, George and James
of Greeley township and Thomas
of Thunderbank, S. D., and two
sisters, Mrs. M. F. Kerwin of Car-
roll and Mrs. W. J. Campbell of
Audubon. One brother, Will
Eagen, died three years ago in
Anita.

Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Chris-
tian church, the Rev. Laverne Mor-
ris of Oakland officiating. Burial
will be in Arlington Heights cem-
etery at Audubon.

Note: Parents of John Charly Fremont Eagen were Thomas Eagen and Catherine E. McTigh, Irish immigrants.
