F. Ide Friday

O. F. Ide, 72, wealthy Brayton
farmer and a native of Ohio, died
at 10:15 Friday evening at his
farm home a half mile north of
Brayton, where he had lived for the
last 62 years.

Death followed a lingering ill-
ness. Mr. Ide had been in poor
health three years.

He was born at Plainview, O(H).,
on May 7, 1864, being a son of the
late Rev. Ebenezer and Emily
McKenna, Ide. His father was a
Baptist minister. When a small
boy his parents died and when 10
years old he moved with an aunt
to Brayton and located on the
farm where he died. At that time
the farm was being operated by
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Smith.

He grew to young manhood in
that community and taught in a
rural school two years. Mr. Ide
attended Iowa State college for a
time and later resumed farming,
being very successful in this en-
dearvor. Miss Elizabeth Cotton
and Mr. Ide were united in mar-
riage at Oakfield. Mrs. Ide died
on Dec. 16, 1923. On Feb. 27,
1929, Mr. Ide and Rachel E. Kin-
ney were married at Des Moines.

Grandson Drowned

A grandson, Charles E. Morten-
sen, 13, a son of Mrs. Mabel Mor-
tensen of Cheyenne, Wyo., was
drowned at that town at 5 o'clock
Friday evening.

The Survivors

Survivors include the widow,
four children by the first mar-
riage, Mrs. Bessie Alexander of
Hudson, S. D., Charles E. Ide of
Bristow, Va., Mrs. Mabel Geneva
Mortensen of Cheyenne, Wyo.,
and Mrs. Mary Marjorie Ander-
son of Brayton, and twelve grand-
children.

Mr. Ide was a member of the
Brayton First Baptist church. He
was a deacon in the church for a
number of years.

Funeral services were held at 4
o'clock Monday afternoon at the
Baptist church. The Rev. Floyd Al-
len Bash, pastor of the Central
Church of Christ at Des Moines,
assisted by the Rev. M. R. Shanks,
officiated and burial was in the
Oakfield cemetery.

BRAYTON

Miss Nellie Bookout and her
mother of Dexter were here Mon-
day to attend the funeral of O. F.
Ide.

Charles Mortensen, the 13-year-
old son of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Mor-
tensen of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and
former residents of Bratyon, was
drowned last Friday in a small
lake near his home. His death oc-
cured about five hours before that
of his grandfather, O. F. Ide. He
was alone at the time and the body
was not found until Saturday
morning.

Charles Ide of Bristow, Va., and
Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Alexander
and family of Hudson, S. D., were
here to attend the funeral of their
father and grandfather, O. F.
Ide. Mr. Alexander, daughter,
Dorothy and son, Joe, have re-
turned home, Mrs. Alexander and
two daughters remaining for a
visit. Charles Ide is remaining for
a visit.

BRAYTON

Charles Ide, who was called
here by the death of his father,
O. F. Ide, returned to his home at
Bristow, Virginia. He was ac-
companied home by his nephew,
Arthur Anderson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. S. R. Anderson.
