Lona R. Houston Died
Saturday At Marshalltown--------
Lona R. Houston, a veteran of
the Spanish-American war and a
resident of this community nearly
all of his lifetime, died Saturday
at the Soldiers' home in Marshall-
town. He had lived at the home
the past three years. He was
about 65 years of age.Mr. Houston grew up in this
community (Exira) and following his re-
turn from the service made his
home here and worked as a
painter. He was never married.
He had not been in good health
for several years and was found
dead in bed Saturday morning, his
death being attributed to a heart
attack.He is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Mary Bryant of Newton and
Mrs. Lydia Henshaw of Des
Moines, besides a number of dis-
tant relatives residing in this
community.A military funeral was held at
the Soldiers' home Monday after-
noon and he was buried in the
cemetery there.Note: Parents were Appolonius Bohun "Ap" Houston and Nancy Bridges.
