Mary Elizabeth Young was born in

She was united in marriage to

making their home in Polk county for
a year. In 1884 they came to Exira,
moving to a farm east of town, where
they lived until 1914, when they re-
tired from the farm to Exira,
where they resided until death claimed
them both--Mr. Channon preceding his
life companion only seven months.

Four children were born to Mr. and
Mrs. Channon. They are Mrs. Leonora
Foss of Exira, Mrs. Bertha Jacobsen
of Casey, Ralph of Exira, and George,
who preceded his parentst in death in
1907.

Besides her three children Mrs.
Channon leaves to mourn her de-
parture eight grandchildren, two broth-
ers, Walter Young of Ankeny, Iowa,
and John Young of Cambridge, Iowa,
and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Rhoades
of Bend, Oregon; Mrs. Elzia Duensing
of Plainveiw, Texas, and Mrs. Anna
Porter, who has made her home here
with her sister for the past five years,
and a host of other relatives and
friends.

Mrs. Channon was a most devoted
wife and mother and a life long Christ-
ian. She united with the Christian
church of Exira and has been a firm
believer in Christ and a faithful
worker for the cause of her Master.

At the time of her death Mrs. Chan-
on was a member of the Order of
the Eastern Star, and also the East-
ern Star club. For a number of years
she was also a member of the Pythian
Sisterhood.

Mrs. Channon suffered a paralytic
stroke last November first, but practi-
cally regained her health again, en-
joying fair health until about ten
weeks ago when she took ill with ab-
dominal trouble, growing gradually
weaker until the end came Thursday
morning.

The funeral services were held at
the Christian church of Exira, Sat-
urday afternoon, October 26, the Rev.
Sherman B. Moore officiating. Burial
was in the Exira cemetery.

For Our Mother
Mother Dear, thy cares are ended
Thou weary soul, art now at rest;
Closed thine eyes in peaceful slumber,
Darling Mother, dearest and best.

We shall miss thy guiding counsel,
Miss thy gentle smiling face;
But thy blessed memory
time or tide can ne'er efface.

Tho our hearts today are bleeding,
And our heads are bowed in sorrow,
We rejoice in His assurance
Of a meeting on the Morrow.

Of a meeting grand and glorious,
When again we'll clasp the hand
Of our dear departed Mother
In a bright and happy land.

May we live as thou hast lived--
Ever good and kind and helpful;
May our hearts be just as pure,
Just as true, and just as faithful.

When we reach our journey's end,
With a trust as strong as time,
May we in that same sweet spirit
Humbly bow to His Will Devine.

And approaching our last slumber,
May we breathe these words, like
thee,
"Wherever you want me to be O Lord,
Thats where I want to be."
