Known Retired Exira
Farmer Died Sunday

Gilbert P. Nelsen, well known
retired Exira farmer, died at 10
o'clock Sunday night at his home
in Des Moines from complications
of a paralytic stroke which he
suffered two weeks ago. Mr. Nel-
sen was 69 years old.

Mr. Nelsen retired from farm-
ing at Exira sixteen years ago
and has since made his home in
Des Moines.

Surviving are the widow and
five children, Theodore and Gerald
Nelsen of Exira, Ernest Nelsen,
Miss Edna Nelsen and Mrs. Lela
Connell of Des Moines. Two chil-
dren preceded him in death.

Gilbert Peter Nelsen was born
September 19, 1867, at La Crosse,
Wisconsin, the son of the late
Peter Nelsen and wife, Christine.

They moved to Minnesota in
1868 and came to Iowa in 1869,
where they settled in Cass county.
Gilbert Nelsen was married March
13, 1894, to Miss Anna Christine
Nielsen, and they settled on a
farm about 1 miles southwest of
Exira, where they lived until 1919,
when they moved to Des Moines.
That has been their home since
that time. He was baptized and
confirmed in the Danish Lutheran
church and was for many years a
member of the St. John's church
west of Exira.

Funeral services were held at the
Danish Lutheran Memorial church,
Des Moines on Wednesday, where
the Rev. S. D. Rodholm spoke, and
at the St. John's Danish Lutheran
church, Exira, at 3 p. m. where
Rev. S. D. Rodholm spoke again
together with Rev. Henrik Plam-
beck, the pastor of the church.
