Woman Died At
Home In Wiota

Peter Kurtenback, Father
Of Mrs. Will Kommes,
Died Thursday,

Peter Kurtenback, native of
Germany and well (k)nown resident
of Wiota, died at his home there
at 7:30 Thursday evening. Death
resulted from complications of a
paralytic stroke which he suf-
fered about a month ago, his con-
dition having been critical since
that time.

He was born December 17,
1851, in Germany, being a son of
the late William and Kathryn
Kurtenback. In 1881 Mr. Kurt-
enback came to Minonk, Illinois,
from Germany and was married
there on February 26, 1885, to
Miss Lena Kienen.

Mr. and Mrs. Kurtenback
moved to the Wiota community
in 1893 and made their home
there since. They farmed until
15 years ago when they retired
and moved into Wiota.

Deceased was a member of St.
Joseph's Catholic church.

Surviving are his wife and
eight children, Pete, John and
Mary Kurtenback of Wiota, Mrs.
Will Kommes of Exira, Mrs.
Bert Scarlet of Guthrie Center,
Ed and Miss Lena Kurtenback of
Atlantic and Mrs. Cecil Murphy
of Walnut. A daughter, Eliza-
beth, preceded him in death. Sev-
en grandchildren also survive.

The funeral was held at 10
o'clock Saturday morning at St.
Joseph's Catholic church with
Father M. J. O'Connor officiat-
ing. Burial was in the Wiota
Catholic cemetery.

Mrs. Will Kommes returned
Saturday to her home here after
having spent the past three weeks
in Wiota helping to care for her
father, who died there last Thurs-
day.
