Oscar Hunt

--------

Oscar Hunt was born in Milton,
Northumberland county, Penn., July
2, 1852. In this place he spent the
early years of his life, but in 1871
when 19 years of age, he started on
the long overland trip to Iowa, driv-
ing the entire distance with a yoke
of oxen. Here he became one of the
pioneer settlers of this state. On
January 21, 1875, he was united in
marriage to Miss Fannie M. Hensley.
Three children, Effie, Frank and Flora
were born to them. In 1884 the wife
died. In 1886 Mr. Hunt was united in
marriage to Jennie M. Reynolds, who
survives him. To this union eight
children were born, seven of whom are
living--Elsie, Glen, Kathleen, Ray-
mond, Helen, Hazel, Lee and Oscar.

In 1914 the family came to Cali-
fornia, and Mr. Hunt settled in Whit-
tier, where he lived continuously until
the time of his home-going June 2,
1928. All of the family are now re-
siding in or near Whittier, with the
exception of Effie, who is still living
in Iowa, and Frank, who died in 1927.

In 1895, Mr. Hunt was converted
in a tent meeting held in his Iowa
home town, and united with the Chris-
tian church, in which he was an active
consistent member for many years.
In April, 1925 he transferred his
membership to the Baptist church of
Whittier, in which he was a member
at the time of his death. He was a
member of the Men's Bible class, and
delighted in the study of the deeper
spiritual truths of the Book.

He was a good man in all that the
term implies. He loved the home and
the family, and put the interest of
these above all other things. Honest,
upright, just in his dealings, he made
many friends, whose friendship he
valued; and he leaves a large circle
of both relatives and friends to mourn
his departure.

The funeral services were held in
the Baptist church, Wednesday after-
noon, Rev. E. M. Hulett preaching the
sermon. Interment was in Linda
Vista cemetery, near Brea.--Whittier
California, Press.
