OBITUARY—ELIZABETH NEPPER.
Thursday morning the sad news was received here that Mrs. Anton Nepper had. died at her home near Exira suddenly Wednesday evening, May 20th, of paralysis of the heart. She had been present at the Kaus-Williams wedding at Halbur on Tuesday. On Wednesday she and her son Peter started for home. She seemed in excellent health and in unusually cheerful spirit. While milking a cow in the evening she fell over backwards and died shortly after. She was 51 years, 9 months and 5 days old.

Elizabeth Venteicher was born at St. Lucas, Fayette county, Iowa, August 15, 1866. It was there she grew to lovely young womanhood and was married to Anton Nepper Feb. 26, 1874. Three years later they came to Carroll county and settled in eastern Roselle township, south of Carroll. In 1893, they sold their place and that spring removed to Exira where they located on a farm one mile west of town.

Departed was a most exemplary Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother, a kind obliging neighbor who always stood ready to do a favor or help those in need. There was genuine sorrow among all who knew her, for every one could speak of her as a model of a wife, mother and neighbor. She is survived by her husband, Anton Nepper aforesaid, by her daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Tharnisch, Mrs. Kate Brown, Mrs. Mary Rein, Mrs. Susie Commes and Miss Gertrude Nepper, and by one son, Peter, the latter two living with their father, all of Exira, Iowa. There also survive her, her brother, Gerhard Venteicher living south of Carroll, her sisters, Mrs. Peter Williams of Halbur and Mrs. Frank Tigges of Dedham. A daughter, Angela, had preceded her to the great beyond 10 months ago. It is aside of that beloved daughter that her mortal remains now repose to await the last call.

The funeral took place Saturday forenoon at 10 o'clock from Holy Trinity church, Father Wieland officiating. Those from a distance who attended were; Gerhard Venteicher and wife, Mrs. F. X. Bauer, Chris Nepper and H. C. Venteicher, Willey; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Williams, Halbur; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tigges and Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Mattes, Dedham; Mrs. Herman Venteicher and A. G. Venteicher, Carroll; J. B. Wieland and wife, Earling; John Kaus and wife, Templeton and John Jasper and wife, Elgin, Neb. There was besides a large attendance of sympathizing neighbors and friends. With these we unite our hopes and prayers that she, whom we now mourn, has found mercy for her human frailties, and that the deeply bereaved ones may derive that sweet balm of consolation that only the benevolent Father can pour into the uearta that are torn by this great grief.
