EXIRA WOMAN DIES OF
BLOOD POISONINGMrs. R. O. Corley of (t)his place died
early Sunday morning of septic pois-
oning as a result of picking a pimple
on her chin with a pin. Only a short
time elapsed after she picked the
pimple until her face began to swell
and the poisoning spread so rapidly
that it could not be checked.Matilda Pearl Corley was the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Shirey
and was one of a family of three
boys and two girls. She was born
in Audubon county, Iowa, December
20, 1885. In May 1903 she was given
in marriage to Robert O. Corley. To
this union eight children were born,
seven of whom are still living.Mrs. Corley was a very frail woman
and had been in poor health for quite
a while. About a year ago she was
seriously ill. Her last sickness came
on about a week ago with a gather-
ing on her chin, and blood poison set
in. She passed away at 12:30 a. m.
Sunday, August 30, at her home in
West Exira. With the exception of
about three years, when the family
made their home at O'Neil, Nebraska,
where she joined the Methodist church
about 15 years ago, she has lived her
whole life in Audubon county.She leaves to mourn her loss her
father, Isaac Shirey, her mother hav-
ing died in 1913; the husband and
seven children; Pearl Helen Brown
of Atlantic; Bertha May, Schrilda
Nora, Albert Boyce, Melvin Luman,
Otto LeRoy and Evadel Unice, all of
Exira.Two sisters and three brothers also
survive. They are: Mrs. Race Rog-
ers of Exira; Benjamin Shirey of
Sioux City; Joe Shirey of Palmer,
Nebraska; Mrs. Lefleur of Guthrie
Center and Isaac Shirey of Exira.Funeral services were conducted
from the Federated church by Rev.
Robert N. Chord on Tuesday, Septem-
ber 1, at two o'clock p. m. Interment
was in the Oakfield cemetery.
