FRIENDS OF WM. THIELEN
GIVE HIM A REAL SCARE

---------

According to the News-Telegraph
a number of friends played a trick on
William Thielen (1856-1930) on the occasion of his
70th birthday anniversary. One of the
officers in Atlantic called at his home
and said he wanted him for violating
the Atlantic traffic regulations. Mr.
Thielen accompanied the officer, but
swore he would never pay a fine and
would appeal the case to the supreme
court if necessary, and meant what he
said. After he was taken several
blocks he wound up at his home, where
a number of his friends were gathered
and they divulged to him the "arrest"
was a hoax for the purpose of getting
him away while they got ready for
the surprise party.

The evening was pleasantly passed
and before leaving the guests present-
ed Mr. Thielen with a combination
fountain pen and pencil set as a (mo)mem-
ento of the day and a token of their
esteem.
