Hello Judy,
Must be a surprise to have a reply from a query posted in 2010. I am not really sure my Wm R Moore is the man you are seeking. My Wm R Moore seems to be closely "associated" with my gggrandfather Michael Bever/Beaver. If you check the 1850 Federal Census for Liberty Township, Jefferson, Iowa, using the spelling Michael Baver, you find my gggrandfather Michael, ggrandfather Samuel Baver, Wm R Moore age 13 and an infant Jno Benes. Unfortunately, no relationships given. Michael's wife died in Jan 1850. Really don't know if Wm R Moore was a direct relative. I have tried to find apprenticeship records or something (unsuccessfully), as when Michael died in 1855, by then living in Appanoose County IA, Wm R Moore was owed $400 for "8 years of service". (That was a lot of money in 1855!!) Wm R Moore even had to sign off (like other known relatives) on Michael's farm when it was sold to satisy his debts.

Anyway, not sure if we are talking about the same man. But, one never knows. Any other clues you may have may help to solve this mystery. Be glad to share any info I may have.
Frances (Bever) Ware
