What timing!
You've got 'em, Glenn, and my next step is to try to reach you privately (I'm not experienced with message boards...yet?)I was just about to write myself to say that I have within the past few days found records for the arrivals (in NY, headed for Centerville, Iowa) of Stina with Karl and Olof (the youngest two), and Axel and his wife Kristina/Christina - (parents of my husband's mother Esther Olson and two brothers, Herbert and Clarence).
Starting from the second reply to my orinal query in January 2013, I worked dilligently through:
- the Centerville newspaper archive
- records on Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org
- the Centerville cemetery via a fine kind person in the mayor's office who took the time to send me a spreadsheet of all the Olson burials
- and finally, the old photo album (with UNLABELLED pictures!) that I have - they're unlabelled, but my husband (the descendant of Axel and Kristina (Anderson) Olson was able to identify a few
and I've pretty well nailed down the entire part of the clan who came to the US - a couple of them still evade me!My very-recent discoveries of the arrival manifests gave me a huge boost including some birthplaces - but I'm not familiar with Swedish genealogy and could not push further without a lot of deep study. (My expertise is more with Russian Jewish - and I think the difficulty of tracking people beyond their arrival in the US is at least as hard as Swedish - maybe harder because so few of the extant records are available online.)
I'll be in touch. You may want at least copies of those photos.
Best, and thank you deeply! -
Martha
