It looks like Buchanan County and not Appanoose County, Iowa.
Frank B. Thomas is enumerated with his parents and siblings in Buffalo Township, Buchanan County, Iowa in the 1880 census. In 1900, he is single and enumerated in Yankton, South Dakota. He is in Curlew, Ferry County, Washington in 1910 -- also single. In the World War I Draft Registration, Frank is listed as Frank Barney Thomas (born October 14, 1877) and residing in Ferry County, Washington and single.
In 1920, he is enumerated in Curlew, Ferry, Washington; [T625, Roll 1921; Page: 2B; Enumeration District: 42]; The listing is: Frank B Thomas, 43, born Iowa, widowed; In 1930, he is still in Ferry County and listed as single. He owns his property in Ferry County according to the 1910-1930 censuses. By 1940, he is living with a sister in Opportunity, Spokane County and listed as single. There are no marriages in Washington state that I was able to locate.
He died in Spokane, Washington on November 12, 1967. An obituary is in the Spokane Spokesman Review - page 13 - on November 15, 1967. It says he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Donald of Spokane and Bernard of Chewelah, WA. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane on November 16, 1967 [R1424-4-1]. No other Thomas surnames are buried in that plot.
Hope this helps.
