I googled Eleanor Sidney Adams and came up with this site. Clicking on the blue underlined links you can take her family back many generations. I have no way to verify the validity of the information on that site.

I checked out the 1880 census and saw that living next door to John C. Adams was a John Adams, born abt 1797 in Pa. That was likely his father. I looked in previous censuses in Appanoose county and found him in the two previous censuses, both times living with his wife Margaret. In the 1860 census here are the family members, living in Pleasant Twp:
John Adams 1798 b. PA Occupation - Survey
Margaret 1818 b. OH
Mary 1840 b. OH
Sarah 1844 b. OH
Ruth 1848 b. OHFrom the first site it said that Mary Jane Brothers was born in Monroe County, Ohio, so I looked there and found John Adams, and his son (John) is living with him. Also he has a different wife so she must have died and he remarried prior to 1860.
1850 - Monroe County, Ohio
John Adams 1799 b. PA Occupation - surveyor
Mary 1807 b. PA
John 1838 b. OH
Mary 1840 b. OH
Sarah 1844 b. OH
Ruth 1848 b. OHNote that his birth location is the same, his reported birth date is within one year, his occupation is the same in both censuses, and the two younger girls are present with the same information in both censuses. John C. must have been out of the house, maybe married, before 1860.
