I'm sure the first entries on the web page below that lists the 1856 census for Wells Touwnship in Appanoose county are your family. There's another Stephenson family later in the same township, but I don't know if they have any connection to yours. I have no relationship to any of your families so I can't help you there. I hope this gives you some information to go on.
