Gerald Adler

CENTERVILLE - Gerald Adler, 62, of Mystic, died Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Centerville.

the service was held at 1:30 p.m. today at Johnson-Lange Funeral Home, Centerville, with the Rev. Owen Adams officiating. burial with military rites was in Dale Cemetery.

Adler was born Jan. 10, 1924 at Fairfield, the son of Ralph and Virgie Sinclair Adler. He married Dorothy Clemens in Des Moines Feb. 3, 1951. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Gerald Jr. of Ottumwa, Merle of Fairfield, Ralph and Jerry, both of Mystic; two daughters, Dorothy Ilene of Ottumwa, Teresa O'Rourke of Centerville; 21 grandchildren, a step-daughter, Shirley Willis of Montezuma; a sister, Myrtle Carlson and a half sister, Millie Jackson, both of Ottumwa and a half-brother, Allen Ware of Drakesville. His parents, a sister and a grandson preceded him in death.

Adler served in World War II under General Patton and was awarded five bronze stars for battles in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. He was a past president of Iowa Pipe and Tile Union in Des Moines.
