P. C. COLE LONG TIME TAILOR OF THIS CITY DIES
Heart Trouble Fatal after Nine Years of Failing Health: Many Relatives and Friends Mourn
P. C. (Pete) Cole, Long time and widely known resident of this city, who lived the 72 years of his life in this county, died at 8:00 a.m. Sunday from a heart illness with which he has suffered for the past nine years. He had become seriously ill two weeks ago and had been taken to the Saint Joseph Mercy hospital. He rallied and was able to return to his home but suffered a sudden relapse during the night and died early Sunday morning. His daughter, Mrs. Ray Kennedy, of Rockford, Illinois, had been here and believing her father to be much improved, was on her way home when his death occurred.
Mr. Cole, who would have been 72 on May 27, was born in Johns Township and as a young man completed his school education in this city. He then went into the tailoring trade in the shop of the late George Groh. Later Mr. Cole had a tailor shop of his own, both in Mystic and in Centerville.
He has done tailoring work for a great many residents of this county and was widely known and liked. In more recent years he had operated a shop in his home at 1318 S. 18th St. which was also a rooming house. Up untill his last illness he had continued with his trade.
Mr. Cole's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Cole, had owned and operated the former Merchant’s Hotel here. The building now house is the Miller funeral home.
On November 5, 50 years ago this year, he united in marriage with Elizabeth Simpson and to this union two daughters were born, who are Mrs. Kennedy, now of Rockford and Helen at home. There are three granddaughters, two also survive, together with one sister, Mrs. George Kirshner of Sheridan, Wyoming.
The deceased was a member of the Central Church of Christ. In his many long years in the city and county he had made a great many friends and acquaintances all of whom mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller funeral home. Dr. H. E. Trimble pastor of the Central Church of Christ, will officiate and burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
