Memoir

James S. Dhority was born January 16th, 1856, in Monroe county, Iowa, died June 29th, 1883.

It was the writer's privilege to be with him on the day of his death, and to find him in the best of health, full of life and good humor, yet in the midst of all this, in the prime of life, he was stricken down by a fearful stroke of lightning, his clothes were torn into shreds and small bits, many of them not an inch long, yet without hardly a visible mark on his body.

But few men had as many friends as Bro. Dhority. He was trained from infancy by the loving hand of a Christian mother, and inherited much of her kindly spirit - free, liberal, large hearted, naturally religious - loved by all who knew him, kind in his home, and most tenderly attached to his father's family, his wife and his children, a noble man of great worth to the church. One of the young converts; he had received a great blessing, and was enjoying a very gracious Christian experience - he spoke freely to me of his interest in the church; asked to pray with him in his home, and gave every evidence of the wonderful change that had been wrought in his life. We think of his precious life, and of his strange, mysterious death on to exclaim: "What a wondrous Christ to save." H.E.W.
